What moral principle does he draw upon to support those positions? Explain his reasoning as he applies the principle to cases involving animals. How does his approach to animal welfare differ from Peter Singer s? Tom Regan s position on the use of animals for food and scientific experimentation is to completely ban it. Regan is saying that animals have a life of their own that is of importance to them just as life is to human beings. They are not just in the world to by a utility to human beings, but they are in the world to live in it and be aware of it. Therefore, it is a requirement that at least one out of ten specified aggravating incidences must be evident to exist beyond a reasonable doubt and, which should be designated in writing before a death sentence can be imposed to an individual. In Jury cases, the trial judge is bound by the recommended sentence Thus, in the review of a death sentence, which is considered to be rather automatic, the State Supreme Court must take into account various factors, such as whether the sentence was influenced by passion, prejudice or any other arbitrary factor.
